Free Internet and Funky People

January 7th, 2010

Hippies, college people, new-age older people…a free loving culture that like to express their thoughts.  That was the culture I found at coffee shops.  These were places I grew to love.  The smell of espresso hot off the press and the sound of rustling papers or tip-taps of communicating keyboards ever drew me to the place.  And that ever present buzz from coffee conditioned me.

I never realized how much I loved the coffee shop scene until I moved to Virginia.

Most nights in Pittsburgh you could find me hanging out…sipping coffee…surfing the net….doing college coursework, etc.  It was a blast.  Free internet and funky people is what I found in these places…and it made me feel right at home.  These places could be found within 2 miles of my place.  But that culture…from what I’ve surmised, just cannot be found around the Virginia area–trust me, I’ve searched for it.  I don’t think it is in the peoples mind the way it’s in a ‘burghers mind.

I do miss this scene…maybe I’ll have to create it for the Virginians….:-).
