October 28th, 2008

Yes, that is the date that Renee and I have officially set for our wedding day.  It’s funny, the day it was set was the day I realized how much she and I have to actually do!  I mean, there’s a lot!  No wonder why women get stressed out over this stuff.

No fear though.  Renee so far has been very proactive about getting plans made to make this wedding go off without a hitch.  So far she has a dress and has (possibly) found dresses for her brides maids (I think that’s how you say it).  I, aside from outputting my opinion regarding items on the wedding, have been working on some other “techy” ideas that I have for this wedding.  The first is getting a website up and running for people to reference when they’re curious about the wedding.  Second, I have this awesome idea to use a computer to record little testimonials from people at the wedding.  It will be messages that people would really like to leave for the bride and groom.  The idea is to use a computer with a webcam and a click button to record and stop recording.  Once the little video is done recording, it’ll be put off into a queue for later DVD goodness…idk, maybe I could make a business out of it.

Other things Renee, she has a job finally in the NICU of Fairfax Hospital.  It’s a great position for a recent graduate of nursing school.  The only thing is, it doesn’t start until February of next year…oh well.

Tracking your Diet

October 23rd, 2008

Recently I was in search of a new application to track my consumption of foods.  Some may ask, why the heck do would one need to track what’s consumed?  Well, I bet if you actually physically tracked your diet for an entire week you might be very surprised of how much you’ve actually consumed.

Now, I’ve tried a number of different solutions in the past.  These ranged from pen/paper to applications written specifically for this task.  The first application that I tried was called BalanceLog from http://www.healthetech.com/.  BalanceLog was an application written for the Palm OS which operated on none other than Palm Pilot based products.  BalanceLog was great at calculating daily intakes of foods, exercise sessions at the gym, etc.  It then produced nice little (Palm Pilot) sized reports of your activities (be it Daily, Weekly, etc.).  Now, I should note that this little application has been sold by healthetech…purchased by Microlife Corporation.  I’m not sure if Microlife is still selling the application.  I enjoyed this little application until I stumbled across an even better one.

Enter myNetDiary.com.  myNetDiary.com is an online based web app that has close to 50,000 foods in it’s databases.  Now, from what I understand the 50,000 foods are not all from a USDA food database somewhere…it’s both from the USDA databases as well as user submissions.  This is great because many of those restaurant type foods or other unique foods are actually contained in the database…making it easy for lookup.

In addition to the easy food lookup, myNetDiary.com also enables the user to track their progress, graph their consumption rates compared with weight loss, etc.  myNetDiary.com has also taken the time to port their application over to the iPhone (and iTouch).  This is awesome because not only can you track you information online but now you can enter it in your phone.

Give it a try sometime, you guys might like what you see.

Fun Weekend Winding Down

October 13th, 2008

Unfortunately all fun has to come to an end.  The beach trip has been awesome.  Even though it was only 4 days…it was all Renee and I needed to relax and have fun.  I posted some pictures up on my website if anyone would like to view them.

Beach Vacation!

October 12th, 2008

OH man, the beach vacation is just what I needed. This place is freaking awesome!

The drive basically started without issue until we hit the normal traffic.  Normal traffic, by Norfolk Virginia standards, is pretty freaking bad (at least until after you get past the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel). Once we got to the place I was just simply astounded at how nice and comfy everything is.  Plenty of amenities and oh such a view!  Check out the video link below…just a quick snapshot from my computer.

Other than the drive I had quite the experience drinking with friends here.  In fact, I may have consumed a little too much.  Let’s just say I lost a lot of fluid over the night and into the morning.  The second day…however…has been much better as I didn’t necessarily “partake”.  Also been taking some nice walks on the beach with Renee.

We have 2 days left here on the beach…so Renee and I are definitely going to use it to our advantage :-D .

I stumbled across a great website…mostly due to my own curiosity…that has a great graphic showing where your money goes when you buy gas at the pump.  I’d really like to bitch about this, but I’m a slave to that pump until I get a better car…

It’s just simply amazing!  I’ve linked the graphic to the original post regarding this.
