Organization
April 10th, 2007
Recently I’ve been on a kick. A kick to get everything in my life organized. I’m talking organization of files, documents, digital things, etc. So far, I’ve got everything in it’s place…but I need a way to quickly look things up.
In comes the mac. See, macs have this wonderful ability to index not just file names, but everything inside of files. So say, for instance, I need to search for a specific number that was on tax forms for 2006. Well, just open up spotlight and type in whatever. It searches everything and then gives me the documents that have the relevant information on them. It’s great! The only issue I have now…I want to store files on a file server that doesn’t really have mac os x running on it. So what do I do…this is my question? I can’t find a way to index the files so that spotlight can quickly find them.
This has been my topic of research lately. Hopefully soon I’ll be able to find out how.
Other things Life, trying to get a lot of things automated and tracked. Just recently picked up a copy of Quicken to track my finances. So far so good with it.
