Hillman

October 24th, 2005

One thing that has impressed me about my school is the surface area alloted for studying. I know that sounds odd to say it that way, but they’ve really made this campus an area where one can study. This week is midterms week for me, so I’ve been studying like a mad man to get things done. Wednesday and Thursday respectively are the days which I need to pull the veritable knowledge trigger…hopefully I can cram enough information.

As for other things, this weekend I spent with Renee. We had a nice lazy Saturday and didn’t do too much…other than me studying :-) .

As many of my readers on the website probably know, graduation is coming up relatively soon for me. I’m quite worried about how everything will go…but that’s only because I’m about to enter into the workforce full-time now. I’m ready, though, to stop living off very small wages.

The week in review

October 15th, 2005

So overall my week has been one of trying, somewhat boring moments in which I cannot seem to gain focus. Really…it sucks! What sucks even more is I cannot pinpoint the troubles for anything…

The best part of my week, by far, has been this relaxing moment down at Crazy Mocha on the Southside…I get my usual which is a Double Latte with Two Sugar in the Raw. Sugar in the Raw is the best gift in the entire world for coffee drinkers. It’s natural and oh so good!

So what went wrong and right this week. Well to start off:

Right

  • I turned my somewhat dormant Mac Mini into a full-fledged developmentn server. It’s great because I can fully develop across a LAN in MySQL and PHP. And, if need be I can open the server up via the firewall to display some project to a client.
  • The house is getting clean in little increments. It’s hard to maintain an entire house!

Wrong

  • Pharoah is starting her seemingly annual Rip-my-fur-out-until-I-have-none routine. Luckily I have a bit more of this numbing spray which makes her not want to lick it out.
  • School necessarily hasn’t been my deal this week.
  • Projects are abounding and I don’t feel like doing them due to the way that I’m treated.

Otherwise, I’ve pretty much just been chilling out like usual. My Mac is fully functional again, so I’m happy. I can’t wait for school to be done! And thats it for this week in review.

Mac back in my hands

October 12th, 2005

So I had to have a few repairs done to the mac this weekend. The keyboard had to be replaced as well as the monitor. The only reason for it was the keyboard was improperly repaired when I had to have it repaired before. This caused the monitor to become screwy a little bit.

But, like the good customer service that is Apple, they had it replaced. They actually just ended up replacing the keyboard and fixing the monitor. I’m happy though as everything is perfectly lined up again. The monitor is still in the pristine condition that I kept it in from before.

Time to start breaking in this new keyboard…

Laurel Highlands

October 5th, 2005

So, I’ve decided…the best way to really get out of the indoors (where I sit behind computers and work) is to embrace another passion of mine, camping and hiking. So, with that, I’ve planned a relatively small trip to the Laurel Highlands. The hike will be almost perfect…not too stressful…and overall just very chill.

I have everything packed up and ready to go. There are just a few items….namely food items that need to be bought and packed. Everything else I pretty much have from previous excursions. The only new items that I’m bringing include a digital camera to take some pictures of the fall folliage and some good reading…most likely Walden.

I hope that nothing happens during the trip…I mean, it’s only six overall miles (which isn’t anything big at all), but there’s always the chance for something going wrong. I, however, will remain on the optimistic side of things.

For any interested there is a website detailing very common information.

Here is another website with more detailed information.

Databases and PHP

October 4th, 2005

You know, databases are great. They store tons of information…make it fairly easy to search, etc. I’ve been using these creatures quite a bit lately with the implementation of a company training website and (future) a survey for lung transplant patients.

One thing that I’ve really been beginning to notice is the need for almost concrete design before implementation of a product. I mean, this one website at work is taking a lot of time…and I think it’s somewhat a factor of design. It is designed very well…but I think there are some changes that could be done. Hopefully these designs will be implemented soon and I will breath a bit easier.

Back back to databases–these things are great. If I could store anything in them they would be my choice.

Yes…I realize that this post is mostly pointless.
